Our Customers’s Success
Tess’ Kitchen Store
Rita Burns took a leap of faith in 1996. With a big helping of optimism, and a dash of bravado, she bought what was then Tess’ Gift and Card Shop in Grass Valley. Rita wanted to offer things local people needed. Gradually she replaced candles with cookbooks, gift cards with griddles, china and crystal with shiny pots and pans.
Tess’ Kitchen Store defines the feeling of what a kitchen should be. It should feel warm and welcoming. The people inside should be accommodating. The best and most convenient equipment should be close at hand.
Rita Burns, Owner
When space became available in the old Hedmans building, Rita saw an opportunity to expand. She faced a major cash outlay for new lines, a beautiful new floor, kitchen cabinets and additional staff, while maintaining Tess’ old-fashioned feeling. Once again, she took the leap, this time hand-in-hand with Citizens Bank. The new Tess’ Kitchen Store opens in early October, with a Grand Opening the first weekend in November.
Rita credits Citizens Bank: “They made it easy. I was so busy, I didn’t have time to jump through hoops – just filled out a few papers, and they continued to take care of me.”
We’re a big fan of Tess’, too. Please join us in celebrating the opening of Rita’s new “old-fashioned” store. |

Fall 2007 Quarterly News
State of the Bank
Judy Hess, President and CEO
As we enter another picturesque fall in the Foothills it’s hard to believe how fast 2007 is passing. Earlier this year we introduced a new checking account for consumers - Tiered Interest Checking. The new Checking Account offers our customers a high return on their balances, using a tiered interest rate structure, without the constraints of a Certificate of Deposit account. And for our business customers, Remote Deposit Capture was made available. Businesses now have the ability to make their deposits electronically from the convenience of their business site into multiple checking accounts.
While we finalize our 3rd Quarter financials, let me share some of the highlights from the Quarter ending June 30, 2007:
Citizens Bancorp, the holding company for Citizens Bank of Northern California, announced that net income totaled $641,000, or $0.34 per diluted share for the quarter ended June 30, 2007, an increase of 2.4% compared to $626,000, or $0.34 per diluted share for the same period in 2006. For the six month period ended June 30, 2007, net income was $1,249,000, or $0.67 per diluted share. This represents a 17% decrease over the same period in 2006 when net income was $1,502,000, or $0.81 per diluted share. Earnings per share for 2006 have been adjusted to reflect the 5% stock dividend declared in May 2007. Total assets for the Company as of June 30, 2007 were $307 million, an increase of $41 million, or 15% from $266 million as of June 30, 2006. Total loans for the Company as of June 30, 2007 were $280 million, an increase of $41 million, or 17% compared to $239 million as of June 30, 2006. Bank-wide growth initiatives have resulted in earning asset growth of $26 million dollars, or 10% for the six months ended June 30, 2007, and $38 million dollars, or 15% year-over-year. Total deposits grew $43 million, or 19% to $269 million at June 30, 2007 compared to $225 million at June 30, 2006.
We are very excited to announce that plans are in process to remodel our Branch on Sutton Way in Grass Valley. We are expanding into the office right next door to our existing site and can hardly wait to serve you in our “new” home. Some of the new features will include a beautiful expanded teller line and a spacious new accounts center, including an inviting reception area that will feature the Bank’s suite of products and services and favorite local coffee brews. The new design is a perfect blend of a state-of-the-art Bank with all the traditional aspects of a contemporary bank, coupled with our signature level of service – the “Citizens Bank Way”. The Branch will be open during construction, so stop by periodically and watch the improvements happen.
Lastly, as the busy holiday shopping season draws near, please remember to shop at the remarkable neighborhood businesses located right in our own backyard. As community-minded citizens, it’s important that we help sustain the strength of our local economy by shopping where we live. We believe it matters to all of us.
Spam Scams
Article courtesy of the Federal Trade Commission.
Some email users have lost money to bogus offers that arrived as spam in their in-box. Con artists are very cunning; they know how to make their claims seem legitimate. Some spam messages ask for your business, others invite you to a website with a detailed pitch. Either way, these tips can help you avoid spam scams:
| • |
Protect your personal information. Share credit card or other personal information only when you’re buying from a company you know and trust. |
| |
|
| • |
Know who you’re dealing with. Don’t do business with any company that won’t provide its name, street address & telephone number. |
| |
|
| • |
Take your time. Resist any urge to “act now” despite the offer and the terms. Once you turn over your money, you may never get it back. |
| |
|
| • |
Read the small print. Get all promises in writing and review them carefully before you make a payment or sign a contract. |
| |
|
| • |
Never pay for a “free” gift. Disregard any offer that asks you to pay for a gift or prize. If it’s free or a gift, you shouldn’t have to pay for it. Free means free. |
